This ewer is used indoors with a basin for washing face or hands. It is entirely lacquered in black embellished with fine gold dust using the hira maki-e technique, depicting autumn plants like chrysanthemums and bellflowers. The flamboyant background employs the nashiji technique that resembles the texture of pear skin.
