The Decorative Techniques of Chinese Lacquerware

Chinese lacquerware varies from monochrome to multi-colored and includes techniques like gluing, inlaying, embossing, and carving. Early monochrome pieces evolved to feature letter engraving, leading to gold-inlaid (qiangjin) and carved lacquer methods. Carved lacquer, which adjusts lacquer layer thickness and uses intricate carvings, originated from the Tang dynasty, reached its peak in the Yuan dynasty, perfected in the Ming and Qing dynasties.
