Lacquered Ornaments

Saddles and stirrups were essential tools for riding horses that also served as ornamental items for samurai. In the 17th century, the period of unification and peace in Japan, they were adorned with gold and silver using the maki-e technique to display authority and status. Inro (cases) became popular male ornaments in the Edo period, diverse in materials and designs showcasing wealth and refined taste.
